All the stuff about limits is really confusing. How can I keep track when I’m out enjoying myself?

Get to know the basics and try your best to stick to the recommended daily limits – 3-4 units for men and 2-3 units for women. To give you a rough idea, a pint of beer is 2.3 units and a small glass of wine (175ml) is 1.9 units. The Drink Aware calculator is a great tool that adds up all your drinks and gives you the total in units and calories so you can see exactly what you’ve put into your body.

After a heavy weekend I get heart palpitations, I’m just glad I can’t see my liver! Should I be worried?

Your liver takes about one hour to process one unit of alcohol, so it takes about two hours to process a pint of beer or a glass of wine. If you’re knocking back shots and a few drinks an hour, your liver is taking a real battering. Give your body 48 hours to recover after drinking and try and remember what your liver can cope with. Find out loads more about the effects of alcohol and alcohol and your health.
